Northeast Fiber Exchange (NEFX) is a one of a kind natural fiber buying hub developed to support New York State’s interest in sustainable textile creation. By connecting fiber farmers to buyers, we aim to create a more stable supply chain across the Northeast region.

NEFX is an initiative of the Hudson Valley Textile Project in partnership with the New York Fashion Innovation Center.

HOW IT WORKS

Buyers and Sellers from across the Northeast are invited to participate in the Northeast Fiber Exchange. The Fiber Exchange is currently buying raw sheep’s wool with plans to purchase alpaca, llama, and mohair fibers in the near future.

Once purchased, raw fibers are graded into lots based on breed, quality, and best use allowing for a simple streamlined sourcing system for fiber buyers in the region.

All fiber purchased by NEFX meets our specific quality specifications, and all participating farms adhere to animal welfare requirements. Buyers can be assured that they are sourcing quality fiber for their products.

There are no pre-requisites to become an NEFX buyer.
Simply contact us to schedule an appointment so select your fiber in person, or request that we select your desired fiber on your behalf.

We recognize the need for sourcing orders of all sizes. To accommodate every buyer, we do not have a minimum order quantity, but to we do offer discounted rates for larger quantities. You can see these prices here.
No, currently all of our fiber is sold in the raw, allowing buyers to source processing as they wish. Scouring services are available at our Clean Fleece facility, and may be scheduled at the time of fiber purchasing if desired.
Yes, fiber purchases may be picked up on site, or shipped to the location of your choice. Shipping charges are not included in fiber prices.
Fiber should be moved from the NEFX facility within a month of purchase. If this is not possible, storage may be available for a monthly fee.

SELLING TO NEFX

All Farmers and Shearers selling to NEFX must become certified to do so by taking our certification training. This hour long training is available during in-person events throughout the year or online.

Fiber sold to NEFX must be raised in the Northeast United States. Sellers must be certified through NEFX and sign our Animal Welfare Acknowledgement form. All fiber must meet our requirements for length, strength, and cleanliness as outlined in the certification training.
NEFX uses a Farmer Feedback Form to set the final pricing for each lot of wool. All NEFX rates are subject to price adjustment based on wool evaluation as described in the Farmer Feedback Form.
